MEET THE ARTIST

After graduating with a BFA from the Columbus College of Art & Design and an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, ceramist Kass O’Brien began her journey to rediscover herself as an artist.

Kass O’Brien grew up in Pennsylvania, spending much of her childhood fishing and sailing on Lake Erie. Kass’s mother was a docent at a nearby art museum, which sparked her curiosity for art and where she ultimately spent taking classes after school. She became active in the art community as a teenager and throughout college, and upon graduation, Kass continued to refine her skills and find her style. Pulling inspiration for her artwork from her surroundings. her artwork initially focused on urban decay, inspired by the steel mills along the Great Lakes where she spent much of her time.

Bringing inspiration
to life.

Years later, Kass moved to south florida. This change in geography inspired a shift in mediums. Kass pulled inspiration again from the local scenery and began experimenting with different mediums.

Ultimately, a love for ceramics allowed her to express her perspective on the natural elements surrounding her from the land to the sea, the organic shapes and unique lifeforms inspired piece after piece. From the seaweed that washed ashore to the palm branch freshly fallen from a tree, Kass transfers these moments into each piece that she creates.
